Marta G. is a septuagenarian woman full of optimism and vitality who did not hesitate to turn to alternative medicine when conventional medicine could no longer do anything for the Restless Legs Syndrome she suffered from.
Her own neurologist, aware that a point had been reached where medications offered no relief and knowing that Marta was reluctant to try stronger drugs, also encouraged her to experiment with natural therapies.
Today, Marta has become one of the best advocates for the permanent auricular microimplant treatment offered by the Center for Neuro-Regenerative Medicine, as she recommends it whenever she has the opportunity.
She shares her experience with other members of the association for those affected by the condition, in forums, and in this case, through her testimony for this section provided on the Center for Neuro-Regenerative Medicine’s website.
She happily tells how she has been able to recover one of her passions, reading. Although sleeping through the night remains a dream, she now rests much more than before, and her quality of life has improved considerably.
She had some previous experience with acupuncture, but it was for less significant issues and always with traditional needles, never permanent ones.
Indeed, Marta is a clear example of the lifelong effect of the needle used in this therapy, as more than four years have passed since her first and only implantation in the auricular pavilion, and the effects continue as they did on the first day.
A journey full of hopes and disappointments until discovering permanent auriculotherapy
An avid reader, Marta discovered what she was suffering from thanks to a report on Restless Legs Syndrome published in a magazine she was browsing.
Her neurologist confirmed the diagnosis: she had this neurological disorder.
The medication prescribed provided some relief, but after learning about its contraindications, she decided to stop taking it.
The symptoms increased along with her anxiety.
Over time, she visited a new specialist who had been recommended to her, and he offered a different medication — with fewer contraindications — that was equally effective.
She was satisfied, as its effects were noticeable, but unfortunately, the dose had to increase to maintain its effectiveness. Once again, Marta weighed the benefits and risks and decided to discontinue the treatment.
Later, through another publication, she learned about a clinical trial testing the effectiveness of a new medication for Restless Legs Syndrome.
She applied, was accepted into the study, and received the treatment for a year, which provided her with considerable relief. However, at the end of the trial, she was offered patches and other solutions that did not satisfy her.
After this long journey full of hopes always followed by disappointments, a report in a local newspaper restored her hope: a treatment based on permanent auricular acupuncture could relieve the symptoms of her disorder.
And so, on September 24 — a date she will never forget — she traveled to the main headquarters of the Center for Neuro-Regenerative Medicine in Valencia and received the treatment.
The relief was as immediate as it was astonishing, and even today, her neurologist continues to be amazed by its effects every time she visits.
